My Answer : Because the majority of people lead lives of "quiet desperation" doing jobs they find themselves forced into out of necessity, not because they like what they do.

My Proof : The majority of people don't like talking about what they do for a living. If they did like what they did for a living, wouldn't they enjoy talking about it. I would. That's how I know most people don't enjoy what their work.
